Weekend Wrap Up

First, a much delayed Happy Canada Day!! For those of you south of the border, Happy Fourth of July!

True, north, strong and free spirit means donning your red on Canada Day. My cherry tomato didn't miss a beat!

I hope you were able to spend as much time outside this past weekend as I did. Partly because you would not have missed my posts, but largely because the weather was pretty much perfect! With Canada Day on Thursday, I took vacation Friday for an extra-long, long weekend. With no special plans, I managed to get in all the little, summer luxaries I love; golf, a campfire, fireworks, relaxing with a cold drink and hanging by a pool made for a fulfilling, yet relaxing weekend.

I even squeezed some small (oh, so small!) chores in there! I tidied my basement, moved the boxes from my (hopefully, soon-to-be-reno'd) office, thoroughly vacuumed and weeded my garden. After two hot days, I broke down and turned on the A/C again today. I could tolerate the heat and sweat when I was cleaning and suncreen-sticky from being outside. Now, working on dinner for bf, it's not so cool (no pun intended), and I'm taking comfort over saving money. Of course, turning the A/C on means all my windows and screen doors are sealed up tight, which means Ferg & Penny no longer have free rein between the house and backyard. I caught someone longing to be back outside earlier today! Hope your holiday weekend was (is) super!

Friends' Homes Make Good Holidays for this Single Girl!

Coffee Mug by Chris Galfi
Another long weekend is over. Today will certainly be long and painful as I try to adjust back to 'work mode'.

Among other things (yard-work, patios and BBQ parties), I spent some quality time vegging out at a friend's house this weekend. I love these weekends! With nowhere to go and no responsibility, these days are like mini vacations for me! This is especially true when my friends have exceptional taste and great cooking! (Growing up in a Bed & Breakfast environment tremendously influences this also!)

First, I was treated to the most phenomenal egg and sausage english muffins for breakfast, then we lazed around for the remainder of the morning. Gabbing, dozing off and watching the food channel- what a way to spend a holiday?! After lunch, we enjoyed coffee out in the sun on her patio, then I read nearly an entire book! Despite a mild sunburn, it felt wonderful! I could never have enjoyed the same laziness at my own house. I would've felt I needed to be working outside, cleaning or doing something. To top it off, I had great company!!

Being able to get away to friends' houses whenever I please is definitely a luxury I don't appreciate enough. While I hope it not to be true, I have a feeling these visits would not be quite so frequent if I were not single. Good enough reason to stay single? It just may be!

The Weekend Away

Railroad bridge by snowmobile trail It's often said that the best part of living in the city is escaping. That is exactly what I did this weekend! I took off Friday morning and headed north for a weekend of relaxing and snowmobiling at my parent's farm.

Despite some very warm weather on Saturday, we still managed to hit the trails all day Friday, and again for a couple of hours on Sunday.

Snowmobiling has been a favourite winter past time for family for at least ten years now. While it's certainly not cheap, nor a fit for everyone, we have always enjoyed being able
Snowmobiling through Bruce Countyto take off for the day, travel through the
neighbouring countryside and stop for the odd hot chocolate or cold drink at one of the local clubhouses or along the side of the trail.

For me, I've always found snowmobiling to be a great way to unwind. With nothing to concentrate on but the trail ahead, it's easy to let my mind go blank and just enjoy the scenery.

Ahhh... now if escaping is the best part, what does that make coming home on Sunday evening? Oh well, T minus 6 sleeps until next weekend!Along the snowmobile trailSaugeen River in Bruce County
